It evolved from Lambada, incorporating smoother and more fluid movements, and is typically danced to Zouk music, a genre originating from the French Caribbean. Over time, it has adapted to include a variety of modern music genres, such as R&B, pop, and electronic.

Characteristics of Brazilian Zouk:

Body Movement: Known for its flowing, elastic motions, Brazilian Zouk emphasizes body isolations, fluidity, and a close connection between partners.

Zouk Dance has elements like: Tilts, Torsion, suspension and Grounding and head movements,

Head Movements: A distinctive feature is the use of head rolls and tilts, often performed by the follower, adding dramatic flair and expressiveness.

Connection: The dance places a strong emphasis on the lead-and-follow relationship, creating a synchronized and harmonious interaction.
